Eat beef once a week? Consider buying in bulk

The Basics
  • The cost of the beef comes from the weight of the animal (paid to WBB) and the processing fees (paid to the butcher). For 2024, we are charging $4.25/lb hanging weight + processing fees from the butcher. Based on average weights we anticipate the total cost of a 1/2 being +/-  $1,500
  • Start by choosing your butcher date. You'll want to ensure you're available to pick up your order 2-3 weeks later. Next reserve your 1/4, 1/2 or whole beef online OR send a check to Whistlers Bend Beef, PO Box 215 Glide, OR 97443.
  • Once your beef is butchered we are in contact with the hanging weight, a final invoice and a reminder to call the butcher directly about cut instructions. They will have your name and be expecting your call.
  • You will be responsible for picking up from the butcher when it is ready +/- 4 weeks after butcher.
Frequently Asked Questions Answered
  1. How much meat is a half beef? Weight varies by cow. Our average hanging weight for 1/2 beef is +/- 300lbs and take home is +/- 180lbs (appx 60% of the hanging weight) We consider it enough for a family of 4 for a year. Roughly half ground beef and half steaks, roasts, ribs, stew meat etc. depending on how you customize it.  Learn about the different beef cuts here.
  2. I'm Interested In Quarter Beef Butcher's Standard. What does that include? We recommend quarter beef for 2 person families and those new to buying in bulk. +/- 90lbs of take home meat. This is no cut sheet required, will include the following ● Steaks; Rib Steak, T-bone, Porterhouse, Top Sirloin, Sirloin Tip, Tenderloin, Tenderized Bottom Round ● Ground Beef ● Brisket ● Roasts & Short Ribs ● Flank Steak OR Tri Tip ● Stew Meat, Soup & Dog Bones ● Offal/Organs if desired

  5. How long will the meat keep in the freezer? 12 months
  6. I have no idea what cut instructions to give the butcher. Don’t worry, they can walk even the most novice through the details and they make it easy. Bring your questions to get the most out of your order.
  7. How does payment work? We need a $500 deposit to secure your order. Once the beef is hanging we are in touch via email with a final invoice based on your cow's hanging weight. We require payment prior to pick up from the butcher. Online with credit card, check, cash or Venmo.
  8. Where is Roseburg? 1.5 hours south of Eugene, right along I5. Frozen solid, your meat will travel well 4-6hours.
  9. What's with grass fed? We adhere to USDA standards for Natural, Grass Fed beef - no grain, hormones or antibiotics. It will be slightly leaner than the grain fed you buy in the store. We believe in grass fed because we have the acreage for grazing, its a leaner protein and it keeps the production costs down for us and in turn the consumer.
